WHAT TO DO FIRST

First, look for a clue whose answer you’re totally confident about. It doesn’t matter which clue and answer it is, as long as it’s one that you know has to be right. Remember that you’re likely to find several clues in any Daily Mini that you can fill in the answers for right away. So review the clue list carefully until you find one that you have no doubt is correct, and fill that one in first.

WHAT’S NEXT

Once you have any answer filled in, next take a look at all of the clues whose answers cross the answers that you’ve already filled in. Most everyone finds it easier to figure out an answer once there are hints from the letters in those crossing words.

KEEPING IT GOING

We recommend that you concentrate on one area of the puzzle at a time, with each new answer that you fill in connected to answers you’ve already written in. If you can’t think of any answers in the area you’re working in, move to another area of the crossword and find a clue you’re sure of, and begin the process again.

WRAPPING IT UP

If there are one or more blank squares left in the puzzle, and you’ve written in all the answers that you can, here are a few suggestions to get you to completion:

Take a quick break, and come back to the puzzle a little later. If you’re like many others, you’ll often find yourself able to think of answers that didn’t occur to you before.

Just in case you may have an incorrect letter or two filled in that you haven’t noticed, you can try removing those letters that you may be less than sure about, and take a fresh look at the clues containing those letters that you’ve just removed.

Don’t be bashful about using the Check button to verify a particular letter or word, or even the entire puzzle. You can also use the Reveal button to have a letter, word, or the entire puzzle filled in for you. It’s also OK to use an Internet search or an online or paper dictionary. Keep in mind that experts say that educational benefits of crossword solving come from completing each puzzle you do, in any way that you can.
